Düsseldorf. Timo Boll, Vladimir Samsonov and Dimitrij Ovtcharov have reached the quarter finals. While number four seed Werner Schlager still has to wait.
After his 4-0 against Bastian Steger in round 1 Timo Boll needed six games against Austria's Chen Weixing. "I had to work a lot today and had to play very aggressively", said Timo Boll. "Chen is an excellent defender but it was not possible for him to keep the high level over the whole match today." This was exactly Chen's impression: "I played well but not on a constant level. I felt a little tired too soon."
Samsonov is pleased
Vladimir Samsonov is quite pleased with his performance so far. He overcame Christian Süß and Jörgen Persson. "Especially in the first and the last game we played some nice reallies for the spectators", said the reigning holder of the World Cup from Belarus. "Jörgen is an veteran pro. He is very experienced, so that you always have to fight until the end."
Dimitrij Ovtcharov secured position one in group C against Kalinikos Kreanga. "I've played very well at the beginning. The only thing was that I lost a bit of control when I was 3-0 ahead. Fortunately, I had a good start in the sixth game", commented Ovtcharov his 4-2.
Werner Schlager lost to Zoran Primorac 9-11 in the final game. In group B it is currently neck-and-neck. Schlager won his first round match against Patrick Baum 4 games to 3.
